Come join a few friends and family to test my new Android app. Thank you for helping out.
I used to overhear Nico listening to the Treehouse children's book series and loved the concept: What if I could climb into my favorite books and travel into the past?
I finally realized how I could do that when I was at anchor in the bay of Taipivai, Nuku Hiva. In the early 1800s, Herman Melville spent several months there after deserting the whaler and its tyrannical captain that brought him to the next bay. He later wrote a lesser-known companion to Moby Dick about that, Typee. The locals say it’s a realistic portrayal of life back then. If only I could have been his companion Toby who came with him...
Then I realized that with the help of AI, I could pretend to step into Melville's shoes and immerse myself deep into the story—and many others as well. You will find my initial selection of stories a little biased toward inveterate travelers like myself, but I really want to hear your suggestions.
I gave a lot of thought to how to make it enjoyable to read without bastardizing classic literature. Now I want to know if that works for you as well?
The button below will actually take you a web page while we are testing. Later, I'll send you back here to install it as an app.
So installation will just involve you adding the site to your bookmarks. It still has an odd URL becuase it is not an app yet :)
After you have bookmarked Story Tree just go and explore. I want to know if everything is self explanatory. During testing, no emails get sent and the payment interface is disabled. So you can make up an email address but you will need to rememebr it to sign in again, along with your password. Ignore any messages about veryfyig your email address. Tapping subscribe or upgrade does not require payment.
For anyone interested, this app is written in Typescript using VS Code and is deployed on Firebase.
Email and payment gateways are not connected, so tap away ...
